In 2020, Govenor of Minnesota Tim Waltz declared September as Suicide Prevention Awareness Month for Minnesota. This is a dedicated time for us to join our voices and share hope, help, and healing for those who are struggling with mental health.

Here are a few resources our state’s government has compiled to help us raise awareness, provide education, and promote hope and healing throughout the month.

Messaging Toolkit

This is a great starting point anybody can use to create discussions about mental health and suicide prevention. This toolkit contains ideas, key messages, resources, social media posts, webinars to attend and share, and other opportunities to learn and talk about suicide prevention. Tailor these messages to best fit your community’s needs.

Light Up Purple this month

Light Up Purple for Suicide Prevention aims to raise awareness of suicide prevention efforts and show support on World Suicide Prevention Awareness Day, September 10, and throughout the rest of the month.

To participate, prominently display a purple light in an outdoor location. This is one way to show you care about preventing suicide and support those who have lost loved ones to suicide.

Webinar Learning Opportunities

The Minnesota Department of Health is hosting a number of suicide prevention and mental health webinars this month. See the complete list of webinars at Suicide Prevention Learning Opportunities.
