Join Planting People Growing Justice for an inspiring event that will spark your child’s curiosity and foster a love for reading!
On Saturday, December 7th, from 11 AM to 1 PM, Planting People Growing Justice is excited to present the Leaders are Readers Program at the Rondo Community Library. This free event is the perfect opportunity to introduce your child to the world of books, science, and leadership through the power of literature.
This month’s featured book is Kojo Loves Science, written by Dr. Artika Tyner. In this engaging story, children follow Kojo, a young boy with a deep passion for science, as he embarks on an exciting journey to learn more about the world around him. Through vibrant illustrations and a captivating storyline, Kojo Loves Science introduces children to the wonders of science and the endless possibilities that come with learning. It’s an excellent way to get young minds thinking about science while also nurturing their reading skills.
Dr. Artika Tyner, the author of Kojo Loves Science, is a passionate advocate for education and empowerment. As a Black woman author, educator, and social justice advocate, Dr. Tyner uses her platform to inspire children to become leaders and change makers in their communities. She founded Planting People Growing Justice (PPGJ), a social enterprise and children’s book publisher, with the mission of increasing diversity in children’s literature and promoting youth leadership development. Through PPGJ’s work, Dr. Tyner hopes to provide children with stories that not only reflect their experiences but also inspire them to reach their full potential.
The Leaders are Readers event is designed to empower children by introducing them to books that encourage creativity, critical thinking, and leadership. At this event, your child will enjoy an interactive read-aloud of Kojo Loves Science, followed by fun and engaging activities that reinforce the themes of the book. This is a wonderful chance for kids to dive deeper into science while developing their love for reading and learning.
The Rondo Community Library is the perfect venue for this event, serving as a vibrant hub for the local community. The library has always been committed to supporting lifelong learning and fostering literacy, making it the ideal place for children and families to come together and celebrate the joys of reading.
In addition to the author read-aloud and activities, attendees will also enjoy free lunch and snacks, making the event a fun and enjoyable experience for everyone. Whether your child is already an avid reader or just beginning to explore the world of books, this event is a great way to ignite their interest in reading and set them on the path to becoming confident, engaged learners.
This event is open to children of all ages, so bring your little ones and join us for a day of storytelling, discovery, and fun! Don’t miss out on this wonderful opportunity to introduce your child to the magic of books and the exciting world of science.
